1. Purpose
APEX Swim School is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all participants. This policy outlines how we manage health information, prevent risks, and respond to medical emergencies in an aquatic setting.
2. Medical Information and Disclosure

Parents or guardians must provide complete and accurate medical information at the time of registration, including:

Allergies

Medical conditions (e.g., asthma, epilepsy, diabetes)

Medications
-
Physical, developmental, or behavioural conditions
-
Any condition that may affect safety in water

Parents or guardians are responsible for updating this information immediately if there are any changes.

Failure to disclose relevant medical information may increase risk and may limit our ability to respond appropriately.
3. Participant Health Requirements
Participants must not attend lessons if they have:

Fever
-
Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
-
Contagious illnesses (e.g., flu, COVID-19, skin infections, conjunctivitis)
-
Open wounds or conditions that may pose a risk in a shared pool environment
APEX Swim School reserves the right to deny participation if a participant is not medically fit for safe involvement.
4. Supervision and Duty of Care

Participants are under the supervision of trained instructors during scheduled lesson times only

Parents or guardians are responsible for supervision:

Before class begins
-
After class ends
-
In changing areas and viewing areas
-

Children must not be left unattended outside of lesson time
5. Emergency Response Procedures
In the event of a medical emergency:

Staff will immediately assess the situation
-
Appropriate first aid or water rescue procedures will be initiated
-
Emergency Medical Services (911) will be contacted when necessary
-
Parents or emergency contacts will be notified as soon as possible
Staff are trained in first aid, CPR, and water safety procedures appropriate for aquatic environments.
6. Consent for Emergency Medical Treatment
By enrolling in APEX Swim School programs, parents or guardians:

Authorize staff to provide first aid and emergency care

Authorize APEX Swim School to seek immediate medical attention if they cannot be reached

Accept responsibility for all medical expenses incurred
-
Agree that decisions made in an emergency will prioritize the safety and well-being of the participant
7. Incident and Injury Reporting

All injuries, accidents, or medical incidents are recorded in an incident report
-
Parents or guardians will be informed of any incident involving their child
-
Records are maintained for safety review, staff training, and insurance purposes
8. Medication Policy

Staff do not administer medication unless written authorization is provided
-
Life-saving medications (e.g., inhalers, EpiPens) must:

Be clearly labeled with the participant’s name
-
Be provided by the parent or guardian

Be easily accessible during lessons

Parents must inform staff in advance about any required emergency medication
9. Allergies and Medical Conditions

Parents must clearly disclose any severe allergies or medical conditions

APEX Swim School will make reasonable efforts to accommodate participants, but cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment

Emergency action plans should be communicated to staff when applicable
10. Hygiene and Communicable Disease Prevention
To maintain a safe and healthy environment:

Participants are expected to follow proper hygiene practices

Showering before entering the pool is recommended
-
No participant may enter the pool with:
-
Open or untreated wounds
-
Infectious skin conditions
-

APEX Swim School follows public health guidance for communicable disease prevention
11. Facility and Water Safety

The pool is maintained to meet safety and hygiene standards
-
Water temperature, cleanliness, and chemical levels are monitored regularly
-
Safety rules must be followed at all times, including:

No running on pool deck
-
No unsafe behaviour in or around the water
-

Staff have the authority to remove any participant from the water for safety reasons
12. Limitation of Liability
While APEX Swim School takes all reasonable precautions to ensure a safe environment, participation in aquatic activities involves inherent risks.
By enrolling in our programs, parents or guardians:

Acknowledge and accept these risks

Agree that APEX Swim School and Apex Enrichment Academy Ltd. are not liable for injuries or incidents that occur despite reasonable safety measures
13. Policy Compliance
Failure to comply with this policy, including providing inaccurate medical information or not following safety procedures, may result in:

Suspension from participation
-
Removal from programs without refund
